Typed and photostatic copies of editorials and news articles on Coogler's life and poetry; letter, 18 Oct. 1943, "No. 2," to Wright Howes, Chicago, Ill., re Coogler's popularity; and volume, 1897, inscribed copy of Coogler's Purely Original Verse. Items documenting Coogler's popularity among college literary societies include typescript of essays, June 1897, from students at Oglethorpe University, with short glossary of terms associated with Coogler and his work: a "Coogleryte" is defined as "one who clings to Coogler, fearing no punishment...," and to "Coogleryze" is "To purify or to beautify...."; transcript reported in News and Courier (8 Jan. 1899), "Columbia's well known 'poet' hsa just received a letter from the president of the Harvard Advocate, asking for a copy of his book, to be placed in the College library, and also for a series of contributions to the paper...." Also includes two lists of references to Coogler and his family, as found in published sources of Columbia, S.C.: "Coogler Entries in The State [newspaper]... (Coogler's Immediate Family)," re funerals, sale of real estate, and a fire; and other news, 1859-1906; citations / references to J. Gordon Coogler in city directories, 1888-1901, along with citations from local newspapers, 1891-1902, re his career, his obituary, and monument in Elmwood Cemetery in Columbia (both compliled by Arthur C. Coogler, Jan. 2012).
